I have 2 DSLR cameras but really need a point and shoot. I'm tired of lugging the big cameras around when i want to take pictures and because of this i really havent spent much time taking pictures of my kids.

I have a sony cybershot that is oh i would say probably 6 or 7 years old. It still works but its way outdated (4.1 mp lol) and i have pretty much given it to the kids.

So i was searching and seen that canon s95 is one of the hottest cameras and has a lot of manual controls which is important to me. It also can shoot in raw, which while i appreciate that, its not THAT important to me since i'll just be using this camera for shots of the kids and every day stuff. Plus i will say that i have thousands of raw images that really should be converted to jpeg, but i'm lazy.

The other camera is the canon sx230 hs. Looking at reviews, users rated this slightly higher than the s95. However the f/ is better on the s95 but i'm not even sure it'll matter to me again because of my subject. If i want dof i'll pull out the bigger camera with my 24-70 l lens.

Anyway, the bx here doesnt sell either of these cameras (go figure right) but they do sell the s90. And from what i have read about the s95, some users say that the 90 is just as good as the 95. So i was going to buy that but of course the bx was all sold out. So now i HAVE to buy online, but i'm not sure about which camera to buy. I'm seriously leaning towards the sx230. Its cheaper and rated very well and still has a lot of manual controls. I also really like the gps in that camera for geotagging. We used to do a lot of geocaching and i think it could be fun to do with the camera.

So if anyone has either of these cameras, feel free to leave a comment and let me know how you like the camera.

Chris put in for tech school instructor which will be in at Sheppard AFB. I wanted to see what houses look like there so i head over to ahrn.com and sign in and check out the houses. Well the base actually puts pictures of their houses on the site to look at. And let me just say the e1-e6 3 bedroom houses look like complete shit! The only thing they have going for them is the fact that it looks like there is no shared wall, the houses are connected by carport. So in that respect its nice, but thats it. The e1-e6 2 bedrooms look decent. But the SNCO and Officer housing is clearly where its at! Newly constructed, big, and stand alone! To bad Chris wont even be able to test for e7 till 2013.

But it doesnt matter anyway because even if he was e7, we still couldnt live on base because as i scroll down and read all the extras i notice this extra part about pets. "Pet Notes: 2 walking pet maximum per household. Breeds NOT permitted: akitas, chows, dobermans, pit bulls, rotweillers, american staffordshire terriers, english bull terriers, wolf hybrids or any other breeds with traits geared toward aggression. NO EXOTIC pets."

See we have a rottweiler. She however is not dangerous. I've had people come over to the house to feed her while we were on vacation on a couple different occasions and she had never met them before. She didnt growl, she didnt bark. All she did was run over to them wagging her tail waiting to be pet. She is the sweetest dog i've ever owned. I think that instead of saying "no dogs with traits geared towards aggression" it should say "no bad pet owners". Any dog is going to be bad if the owner treats it badly.

So ok whatever, houses there suck anyway. Moving on i start looking at houses in the area to rent. And i start seeing a trend. Many of the houses will not accept "dangerous" pets. So my bad ass dangerous dog is not welcome in many houses but to top it off, these same houses are also saying no cats. Um thats a little crazy. I guess living here in Italy, i'm used to seeing it say "pets- cats only are welcome". Italy loves their cats i guess. But the States, i never thought we would have such a hard time finding a house that will let us have our dog and cat.

Going down the list a little more and i find a house and it says that pets are fine but there is a $25 per month fee! OMG WHAT? You have got to be kidding me right? This guy is going to be making a killing if hes able to find someone with pets and willing to pay that.

So in all, i hope that if Chris gets this assignment we'll be leaving around this time next year probably unless they curtail our assignment here which i dont know if thats possible (i would like it to be possible since i'm ready to leave) but i hope they have some better houses. You would think that being stuck here in crappy houses for 3+ years i would be happy to see any american style house but no, i'm extremely picky and its not helping that my animals are not welcome in the houses that i do actually like. And we are so not buying a house in that area. So i might just have to settle for something less than what i want.

1. Which was the best day of your life- Wedding day or Homecoming day? Well since i didnt have a wedding (we went to the JP and the only person there was our best friend) i would have to say homecoming day.

2. Were you a part of the joining the military question or did you sign up for the relationship when your man was already in the military? My husband decided to join the military when we were seniors in high school. We got married after he was done with tech school.

3. What is your favorite Disney movie and why? Depends on the day really. I love pretty much all of the disney movies that came out in the 90's. Watching them now brings back so many memories of simple carefree days.

4. What is your favorite family activity to do on the weekends? This is a hard question for me. Here in Italy, there really isnt anything we look forward to doing on the weekend. However in FL we could always look forward to going to the beach.

5. Where do you secretly wish you could be stationed with you/your SO’s line of work (realistically speaking, not everyone can be stationed on NAS Fiji)? Hurlburt Field in FL. Thats where we were before here and i miss it so much. We were there for 6 years and i so wanted to leave (after all isnt one of the perks to military moving around and seeing different parts of the world?) well after a few months here i was so ready to go back to FL. Its where i consider home now even though we are from PA.

So if you know me you'll probably already know that i'm not the biggest fan of Aviano. Today i added to the list of why i cant wait to leave here. This time it was the fact that i cant seem to get a job that i want. I wanted to work at the school because well, my daughter goes to school and it would be nice to not work when shes not at school right? Well i filled out the application and put that i was willing to be a teachers aid and i was even willing to do lunch monitor. Lunch monitor AKA the easiest job in the whole world. You just stand there and monitor kids while they eat lunch.

Today i get a call from DODES and the lady on the other end asks if i had any other work experience (i've only had 1 job in my adult life and that was last year, i worked at the movie theater here on base for 6 months before my husband deployed). I told her no. She then asks me if i have any volunteer experience. I tell her none that amounts to much (i am a stay at home mom after all). So then she says, well i see you are in college, how many credits do you have? I tell her 33 and shes like well thats not enough either, so you are under-qualified for any job at the school. Uh ok, so i'm useless and suck at life i guess. Thats what it sounds like to me when someone tells me that i'm not even qualified to stand around and watch a bunch of kids eat lunch! So i spent the rest of the afternoon having a pity-party for myself and eating a whole lot of Godiva chocolate (my favorite).

I took my daughter to ballet and my son and i went over to the bowling alley to take to my old supervisor/friend about the whole situation. And she thinks its complete BS that they wouldnt even hire me for the lunch monitor position. Shes the assistant manager at the bowling alley and manager at the coffee shop and told me if i want a job she always has a spot open for me. So we talked about that and if everything goes as planned i'll have a job at the bowling alley sometime in the near future.

I need to get a job at this point in my life. I'm 27 and have no real work experience (i guess not enough that actually counts). My son will be going to an Italian preschool in the fall, so i will have no reason to stay at home. I would hate to move back to the US and not be able to find a job because i'm old and never worked. But if all goes as planned i'm have a degree by then, so hopefully that will help me out too.

About 3 weeks ago we got this little kitty...

IMG_0956

He's half persian and as you can see, super cute!

At first we were unsure of how he was going to adjust living here. Well we were also concerned our our 2 year old Rottweiler, Zoey. Zoey is a wonderful dog, she's really gentle, but she can by hyper and well she LOVES to chase anything that runs.

The first couple days we kept Zoey in the kitchen away from the kitten. Every time they saw each other Zoey would whine and the cat would hiss. But i realized the only way to get them use to each other was to make them be in the same room. So i let Zoey back into the living room and at first it was bad. Zoey was hovering over the cat and the cat was hissing and scratching at her. But soon Zoey could careless about the cat.

Now days Zoey can be caught cleaning this little kitty and he just takes it and when she leaves he cleans himself off. Every now and then he must forget that shes much bigger and that hes actually kinda scared of her and he'll attack her tail when shes laying down. Its so cute to watch him.

This little kitty is just full of energy. When Zoey is outside, hes most playful. He will run around the house, attack our legs and feet. Hes now starting to jump up on everything, including the tv stand, where he then attacks the tv.

I've never had a house kitten before. I've never had a cat in the house growing up. In FL we got a full grown cat that i miss but we left her in FL. When we got here we got another cat but he didnt adjust to the dog at all, he spent all his time upstairs so we gave him to another family with no cat. Anyway, having never had a kitten in the house, i never knew how much energy they really have. I know eventually he'll become a lazy house cat like all cats are. So i'm enjoying having a kitten for once.

In other news. Chris will be going to NCOA soon. I have picked out and ordered my dress. Its super cute! I hope it fits and looks good on me. Thats always the worst part about ordering a dress online, but I really have no other choice here.

I really didnt want Chris to do this NCOA thing until we moved back to the states in hopes that we could get a family member to visit and watch the kids while i went to his graduation. However the AF had other plans for us, like they always do! But i am blessed to have a few wonderful friends here and one of them stepped up and offered to watch the kids for me while I go to his graduation. I'm so thankful for her!

Well i totally suck at blogging right? I started this blog to keep my family back home in the loop. But i never remember to update things here. I will try harder i suppose. So lets recap of all the things that have happened since my last blog in December.

Janurary Chris went TDY to Vegas. How unfair! I was still stuck in the land of wine and pasta while he got to go and have all the american foods that i haven't had in almost 3 years now. Yeah i was jealous to say the least.

February he returned home and told me all about all the amazing food he had...haha And at the end of February we picked up our Volvo XC90, which we had ordered back in November. This is my dream car and i'm still in love with it and feel so happy every time i drive it.

March I went to Carnival in Venice with some friends to celebrate mine and my best friends birthday (we have the same birthday no wonder we are such good friends). I have a blast and have many memories that i will cherish for the rest of my life.

April was sad. That best friend of mine ended up leaving Italy to move back to the states. Things have been really boring here with out her (did i mention she lived 3 doors down?) But i still talk to her online. Thank god for the interwebs or things would really suck.

Anyway, for the past month i have been pretty busy. Kairi is still in ballet she also does baseball. So really the only days of the week where we have nothing going on is Friday and Sunday, Zach also has "baseball" but its not really baseball. I'm really not crazy about the way the AYP does things here, I so wish we were in the states where he would be in tball or something instead of this fake baseball thing. But oh well i suppose. Next year he'll actually get to do tball and then we will be on our way home!

So a lot of girls i have came to know here are all leaving or have left. It makes me excited because i know we are just that much closer to being gone from here for good. Italy hasn't been ALL horrible, but this base just isn't as great as it used to be.

I started taking classes again, i'll eventually get a degree. haha. I'm only like 11 classes away. I'm just taking 1 class at a time so i don't get overwhelmed like i did before.

New additions to the family, we now have a kitten living in our house. he's pretty cute, Zoey and him are starting to get a long better. She tries to clean him and he lets her but when shes done he ends up cleaning himself. he's really frisky. I've never had a kitten before. We always get cats, so its a new experience and i have to say i cant believe how much energy these little balls of fur have.
